Ingrid Callot on Sustainable Living
Tuesday, April 5th, 2011People should adopt a lifestyle of sustainable living if they want to reduce their carbon footprint. They can do this by altering their methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet. Ingrid Callot advocates sustainable living because she believes in shifting to a renewable energy-based, reuse and recycle economy. She practices this in her own home by doing urban gardening, patronizing local produce and recycling items instead of buying new ones, not purchasing detergents, toxic chemicals and anything plastic, and composting organic waste.
There must be a semblance of balance between humanity and Mother Earth. Because they share a symbiotic relationship, neither can exist without the other. Ingrid Callot believes that people can help by starting in their own homes. She and her family adopted the “green philosophy” in their effort for living sustainably. Choosing a house in close proximity with essential services such as grocery stores, schools, or work can make it possible to commit to sustainable transportation choices. By patronizing local produced, they reduced carbon offset caused by long-distance food transport and at the same time, stimulate the local economy. Another fundamental contribution is by purchasing and supporting organic products or making organic produced through urban gardening. With every fruit and vegetables harvested from urban gardens, it can greatly reduce negative environmental impacts in numerous ways.
